Our class enemies have weakened to a point where their best option for waging counterrevolutionary warfare is to use proxies of an exceptionally unreliable nature; ones which the workers movement can beat quite easily. That is if the movement’s cadres harness their full potential, and sufficiently prepare for the next stages of the class conflict.
These proxies are the counter-gangs which come from radical liberalism, and from the lumpenproletarian elements the feds seek to weaponize against revolutionary politics. They’re the ultraviolent “Antifa” anarchists that view communists as fascists, and that naturally are managed by the feds. They’re the criminal gangs that work to distribute drugs to organizers, and to the broader working class. They’re the even more dangerous lumpen types which are willing to inflict violence against organizers on behalf of the state.
The ruling class has come to view these social forces as its best tools because unlike the far-right militias, they’re able to be sold to the public. Within the liberal propaganda sphere, they’re associated with “progress” and “anti-fascism,” which means their counterrevolutionary terrorism activities can be disguised as respectable. As long as the targets remain obscure enough for the public not to know anything substantial about them, and therefore to not recognize the “fascist” smears against them as false, then the left and lumpen counter-gangs can assail them with impunity.
The big risk in this counterinsurgency strategy is that should the workers movement’s cadres gain enough strength, they’ll become able to both overcome the attacks from the counter-gangs, and leave the state highly vulnerable to defeat. Because the power structure of the elites has become so unstable, it’s now dependent upon the success of these counter-gangs. Which themselves have glaring weaknesses, weaknesses that the workers movement can take advantage of.
The inadequacies within these groups are apparent in how aside from the gangs, they reject basic military discipline. The left anti-communist Antifa branches draw from petty-bourgeois youths, and from students who uncritically share the liberal geopolitical teachings of their academic institutions. Their ideology is based within a narcissistic individualism that says it’s acceptable for somebody to call themselves a “communist,” while neglecting their physical fitness and embracing an apathetic lumpen lifestyle of drugs and hedonism. Their attacks upon authentic revolutionaries tend to have minimal effort, because they’re satisfied with lethargy. It’s inherently difficult for federal handlers to compel them towards going on physical missions, making the in-person attacks they’ve so far directed towards communists cowardly in nature. For example, two years ago “anti-civilization” anarchists showed up at an event, and flipped the table of the Party of Communists USA.
With physical and tactical training, our cadres will be in place to defend from whatever this element directs towards us. This enemy of ours hates military discipline, so if we embrace military discipline we’ll have an innate advantage.
No doubt the feds will seek to drive left anti-communists to escalate beyond table-flipping, but here the feds are working with people who have limited potential in regard to fighting. The elements of the lumpen that were brought up within a renegade lifestyle, as opposed to the suburban kids who’ve merely experimented with lumpen practices, represent a more serious threat. They have a history of successfully bringing bloodshed to communists in this country. When the Chicano communist Cheyenne tried to unite the California gangs into a revolutionary movement, he was betrayed by his gang’s own members, who were indifferent to the idea of advancing history and insisted on continuing with their short-sighted gang warfare project. When the state managed to get him into prison, it put him into a situation where this conflict could easily bring about his murder, and he was stabbed to death.
To avoid being harmed by the reactionary lumpen elements in the equivalent ways, we must not repeat Cheyenne’s mistake of assuming gangsters can be turned into revolutionary entities while remaining gangsters. The correct practice is to first create the organizational infrastructure that can let those within the gang lifestyle get out of it, and then let them into our orgs should they pass the vetting process. Active or semi-active gang members can never be let into a communist org; not unless they’ve shown themselves to be willing to abandon lumpenism, and we have the resources to help facilitate that proletarianization process. Fetishizing gangs and lumpenism is what the radical liberals do. And they can only keep the favor of these elements because they’re willing to enable their worst habits, such as distributing drugs, paying for sex, and impulsive acts of violence.
When it comes to our efforts to defend from the organized parts of the lumpen, an essential part of winning is simply to act with wisdom. The lumpen reactionaries depend on communists acting foolishly, and placing our trust in them based upon a misguided sense of moralism. We must remember that socialism is a working class ideology in particular, and that we can’t act like gang members or drug dealers are synonymous with the workers simply because they’re dispossessed.
Why have I found it important to keep articulating these points? Because whether we can overcome the attacks from the radlib and lumpen counter-gangs is going to determine whether we win the class war. These proxies are so important to the state because if they prove to be ineffective, the state will be forced to use its direct tools for violence. Which will bring tremendous risk of provoking an unmanageable mass backlash, and compelling many more of the people to join with the revolutionary side.
Our rulers have come to be in such a compromising place, where their best hope for preventing revolution is a series of undisciplined or criminal elements, because of how much the capitalist system has declined. In the global monopoly capitalist hub the United States, the crisis of overproduction has grown severe enough that the elites can no longer afford to maintain most of the old labor aristocracy. That class has declined greatly since the start of neoliberalism, with far more of the formerly comfortable workers now lowered to a level of being truly exploited. As the pool of bribed workers shrinks, Americans across the ideological spectrum are reacting to their worsening conditions, and coming to hate international monopoly finance capital.
This emergence of a proto-revolutionary consciousness is making them more open to the idea of a multipolar world, because they’ve lost their incentive to side with the geostrategic aims of their imperialist government. They’re seeking out explanations for why our society has entered this perpetual state of decline, which has created opportunities for reactionary demagogues. If communists decide to provide these masses with the correct answers, though, instead of dismissing them as enemies, then the elites will truly be in trouble.
That’s increasingly what’s happening. We’re building the institutions that can give the people education, direction, and community of an anti-imperialist character. Communists who act independently from the Democratic Party have been forming the networks with other antiwar tendencies that are necessary to break Democrat dominance over the communist movement, and expand the struggle beyond the left-liberal niche.
As this project comes to bring more of a threat towards our ruling institutions, the established “socialist” groups will try to defend their organizing monopoly by tacitly allying with the ultraviolent radlibs and lumpenproles. They’ve already come to be ideologically allied, as they share opposition towards Russia’s special military operation, multipolarity, and efforts at broadening the social movements beyond “leftism.” The established left orgs are also willing to promote the “red-brown alliance” narratives that Antifa and its collaborators use to justify their crimes against the workers struggle. Prepare for this layer of ruling class assets to intensify their assaults upon us. With discipline, training, and intelligence, we can beat them and their monopolist masters.
